The History Of Nautical Star Tattoos

January 6th, 2010

There are so many choices when thinking about what tattoo to get and nautical star tattoos are popular. When trying to make that decision, there are important things to consider. One thing to consider is history of whatever the choices are. A popular tattoo that many people get is the nautical star. Because they are common, many people like to know about its origins.

The word nautical in Nautical Star Tattoos refers back to sailors. This is an obvious connection because the word itself refers to things having to do with sailing. Many of the sailors early in history would navigate by using the stars at night. The North star was one thing in the sky that would allow the sailors to know where they were headed. Once the sailors knew where the north star was located, they could safely plan the trip back to where they were headed.

Because most people believe that sailors were known to be a bit superstiocious, many of them would get Nautical Star Tattoos somewhere on the body, most commonly the forearm. This became a symbol not only of the direction of the ship by using the stars at night, but it also represented the course of life for these sailors. They knew that by some miracle or chance, they would make it home safely, or to their destination. By tatooing a star on their forearm, they were hoping that they would make it back to their home.

Nautical Star Tattoos also became known by these sailors as the symbol of finding ones place in life. When seeking direction and the course of life, it would be nice to have a compass, or a north star to know the direction in which to head. Most people would say that these sailors got these tattos for that reason also. Especailly being a sailor, finding ones course in life my seem difficult at times when so much of life is left to chance, and the way the wind blew. The star is the place of hope that every person can look upon.

Re: 1000 Tattoo Designs For $29.99

A few weeks ago, I was in the same boat. I was really interested in getting a tattoo but was having trouble making a choice on the art that I wanted to use. I had visited a few local tattoo shops and was very unhappy with the art that they had available. I also wanted a tattoo that no one in my city would have.

I recently purchased some art from http://www.theartoftattoo.info/ and it was really nice. They really had a great selection for such a low price. I was also surprised that there was such a wide variety. I am not exactly rich so it is a whole lot cheaper than buying by the sheet. The images aren’t free but for $30 bucks for a thousand images, it is pretty damn close.

In the end, I ended up going with a really wicked looking skull from The Art of Tattoo website. I hope that this is helpful to you. Good luck with your new tattoo.

What are some ideas for husband/wife tattoos?

February 5th, 2010

So me and my husband are wanting to get tats. Not necessarily matching, but something along the lines of husband/wife or something. My cousin kinda beat us to it and she got a tattoo that says wife in japanese and the husband got husband in japanese, so there went our original idea. We don’t want to get each others names on our bodies. While we do love each other very very much, it seems everyone we know who has done that has ended up in divorce. So any ideas? Thanks so much!

i like the infinity symbol, you could both put it on your wrists but in different colors.

What does a upside down nautical star mean(tattoo)?

February 5th, 2010

I know what an upside down pentagram means, but dose a upside nautical star mean the same thing? Or dose it mean anything different if it tilted? I mean for tattoos… Thank!

NO…it just looks tilted, is all.

I would say around $250-600, it’s not color, but it’s tedious shading. I think that it depends on what kind of artist and tattoo shop you go to, because artist charge differently based on personal accomplishment and integrity. But it’s only black ink, so what they are charging you for is skill…. so that is hard to rank. I would go and see a specific artist for that kind of detailed estimate.

What would look good with this nautical star tattoo?

January 20th, 2010

I don’t know what to have with this star, I did have a cross behind it, but I couldn’t think what design to have on the cross…

I’m planning to have the tattoo on my chest… right side, just above the nipple. And im a guy LOL!!

Anyone got any ideas?

What about wings like these: http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn302/Kmozisek/WingedNauticalStar-1.jpg

Or else some brick wall patter (just few dark bricks apart) should look strong and cool, or a chessboard huh ;-)

I want to get a tattoo of the zodiac cancer crab with my initials and my family members initials around it.?

January 11th, 2010

Unfortunately, i have nooooooo talent when it comes to drawing. Does anybody who may have some drawing skill want to maybe help me design the tattoo? I’d be willing to pay.

What I would do if I were you is go online and look for the picture that you have in mind and take that to the tattoo artist. If you get one from the flash art (the drawings on the walls of tattoo shops) you won’t get a unique design. And most tattoo artists are also excellent sketch artists. BUT before you do that, get some tattoo magazines and research tattoo shops in your area. I don’t know where you are from, if Michigan I could recommend a few people but if not another favorite thing I do is whenever I see someone with a tattoo that looks really good, say "Hey nice tat where did you get it?" People love to talk about their tattoos. Look at the lines, are there any breaks? Sometimes if you look real closely at a tattoo you will see where the artist didn’t hold the gun very steadily. Look at the color, is there any faded spots? That can be a sign that either it wasn’t taken care properly in the first stages or the tattoo artist pushed the needle down too hard.

For some reason people want to get tattooed in the summer, and really that is the worst time to do it because although the instructions that they give you tell you not to go directly in the sun for 7 days it is really more like 2 or 3 weeks depending on your skin, the sun will pull the ink out, and you can not swim after getting one done. As long as you don’t mind that though you are good to go.
