Any tips or ideas for a dark/gothic newborn photo-shoot?

July 20th, 2010

My friend wants me to do her newborn photos and her and her hubby want it to be dark/gothic. they both have tons of piercings and tattoos. I think were gonna be doing the shoot outside in a grassy area with lots of trees by a river. I don’t really have a clue of how to do a "dark" or "goth" newborn shoot, so any ideas or tips would be extremely appreciated!!!

Indoors would have been easier. Frilly black lace and purple/black silk under the child (easy gothic).
Outside, I don’t know, that grungy old photo feel with the vignetting might work if that’s what you’re into. Here’s a photoshop tutorial parts of which you might find useful http://www.photoshopstar.com/graphic-design/photo-effects/old-style-photo-effect/

Plain old black and white shot the right way can also give a dark gothis feel, like here; http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3052/3040844159_b1a04590c9.jpg

Also it’s a plus to use the parents as props (Cleverly letting some tattoos, piercing or dark clothing of the parents holding the child show in the frame will provide a free instant goth feel.

Anyway, there are probably lot’s of options. But with no notic and no time to think beforehand those are the things I would be force to fall back on.

Where to find a traditional Gothic alphabet font?

July 9th, 2010

Like this: http://www.wazu.jp/gallery/Fonts_Gothic.html

For some reason this isn’t downloading on my computer, but I’ve been looking everywhere for a Gothic font, and just end up getting the English language modified to look "gothic". Any ideas? I’m trying to sketch a tattoo

See http://www.alanwood.net/unicode/fonts-european.html#gothic .

You can find how to obtain the fonts listed elsewhere in the site: http://www.alanwood.net/unicode/fonts.html .

See also http://www.evertype.com/standards/iso10646/plane-1/gt.html for a rather old article which shows many Gothic characters.

Are the stereotypes often associated with piercings and tattoos fading?

May 31st, 2010

I posted this Q in another section but not very many people are answering so I guess I’ll try this:

The reason I ask is because a favorite movie of mine, Life As A House, and a criticism I have of it. At the beginning of the film a teen aged boy has a few piercings and hates his parents and listens to Marilyn Manson… As the story progresses he transforms into someone that doesn’t hate anything and begins to love his life and family, and he begins to be a happy person… And it always bugged me that as he transformed into this great loving person he took out his piercings, maybe saying (even unintentionally) that the piercings are what made him so full of hate, not that he was just full of hate… sorry for the big long spiel…

My question: is the stereotype regarding people with piercings fading (ya know that only bratty emo’-ie teens, gothic people, ‘weird’ people, and criminals have piercings, and people with piercings listen to ‘evil’ metal and hard rock)??
Why do some people continue to give in to these stereotypes?
Why do some have a hard time believing that ‘normal’ (I really hate that word) people have piercings or tattoos, that its just a small piece of metal and means next to nothing??

BTW: I don’t wear black, I wear bright colors, I love Vonda Shepard and Ally McBeal… I’m not goth, I’m not punk, I’m not ‘emo’, The two none ear piercings I have mean nothing more than my traditional ear piercings: I got them just because I wanted to…. I’m well adjusted and a honor student…

thank you and please answer kindly :)

I’d really like to hear non-pierced/non-tattooed peoples’ opinions on this….

I hope I’m helping to break the stereotype.
I’m just a 15-year-old teenager, but I’m in all honors and AP classes.. and I have an industrial piercing. I’ve never gotten into any serious trouble, I don’t party, and I don’t hate my life or try to be extremely different.
And I know that someday I’ll have to take out my industrial, but that doesn’t put me off from having it now.

What is the writing called when it says one thing one way and upside down it says another?

May 21st, 2010

A lot of people get it tattooed. It looks almost like some gothic writing. An example would be it’ll say "life" right side up and "death" upside down.

Does anyone know what that form of writing is called?

It’s called an ambigram…check it out:

How I do get a Gothic girl to like me?

May 13th, 2010

I Like girls with piercings and tattoo. Think they look so hot but i’m not goth so don’t know what their looking for. Any hot gothic girls out their gimmee a holla.

Just be yourself.
It’s not like they’re a different species.
And if they don’t like you, then they’re not worth it.
The same would go for any other type of girl.

Am I evil/gothic ?O_O?

May 4th, 2010

I am 14,female,freshman and at the beggining of the school year,my friend recently told me that a lot of people thought I was gothic and was trying to be coolT_T although I don’t see how because no one wore anything I wore, and I don’t stick with the latest so called fashion trends, and I was also and still am queit.I wore black fingernail polish, all black, hairstyles that involve bangs, things with skulls, arm warmers etc.

I love leather, motorcycles, black things, skulls, and anything with skulls on them,I like eye liner, arm warmers, rock music,i admire corsets, but would never wear one,I absouletly love piercings, but I only have two and am going to keep it that way lol,and I like tattoos, but I don’t want one.My boyfriend even thought I was gothic, and he likes that about me,but I really don’t know if I am or not..I don’t enjoy hurting people or things, but I do like scary games, scary movies, and scary stories and love being alone.

Places like these give me a warm feeling:
(the first place is Aokigahara in japan..the suicide forest.)

Oh yea,I beileve in God,but sometimes I have doubts,But i know he’s real, and I don’t like REAL evil, just FAKE evil things.(Like I like the Evil guy on the Batman movie :D the Joker lol.)

Does the New Testament say anything about tattoos?

April 27th, 2010

Basically i got a scarab (Egyptian symbol meaning eternal life) on my right shoulder, a gothic cross on my left shoulder, two arm bands, the Jewish star on my left peck and "Allah" in Islam on my right peck, the word "Memory" (which is my graffiti alias) in graffiti styled letters at the top of my back and the ten commandments down the rest of my back…

My body is kinda like a shrine to God so he shoudn’t mind too much?

And i know it says shiit about tattoos and piercings in the Old Testament but they refer them to the pagan rituals in how they honor their god… and plus he was talking to the Isrealites… and i’m not an Isrealite…

I just really like tattoos :\ mostly cos i’m an artist and they are all my own personalized style.

In the new testament, it says that our bodies are a temple. So tattooing is about the same as defiling the temple.

Question for Ladies, About Tattoos on hip?

April 20th, 2010

I’m kinda gothic or dark and I wanted to get a tattoo of a dark angel girl sitting on a skull. But my work will fire me if it’s in a place that is visible, so my girl told me it would turn her on if I got the skull on my pelvic area n the chick sitting on the skull above my waist line need some other girl opinion…
I was thinking of putting the skull on the left side, right above my penis n the girl sitting right on top of the skull. I think I have the bodie for it not really ripped but I got a flat stomach with a little muscle. Tall n skinny basicly. Can’t put it on my back I got a tattoo that goes from shoulder blade to shoulder n half way down my back.

Humm… by above your waist line do you mean above your hip bone?
I think if you placed it on the inside of your hip bone it would be ok. An idea for you to get the feel of what it would look like is to have your GF draw one on you there with marker or get a temp. tattoo and put it there, that way you can remove it if its not the look you want.
Good Luck and mind you right there will be a bit painful its quite tender, but you probally all ready know that.
