The History Of Nautical Star Tattoos

January 6th, 2010

There are so many choices when thinking about what tattoo to get and nautical star tattoos are popular. When trying to make that decision, there are important things to consider. One thing to consider is history of whatever the choices are. A popular tattoo that many people get is the nautical star. Because they are common, many people like to know about its origins.

The word nautical in Nautical Star Tattoos refers back to sailors. This is an obvious connection because the word itself refers to things having to do with sailing. Many of the sailors early in history would navigate by using the stars at night. The North star was one thing in the sky that would allow the sailors to know where they were headed. Once the sailors knew where the north star was located, they could safely plan the trip back to where they were headed.

Because most people believe that sailors were known to be a bit superstiocious, many of them would get Nautical Star Tattoos somewhere on the body, most commonly the forearm. This became a symbol not only of the direction of the ship by using the stars at night, but it also represented the course of life for these sailors. They knew that by some miracle or chance, they would make it home safely, or to their destination. By tatooing a star on their forearm, they were hoping that they would make it back to their home.

Nautical Star Tattoos also became known by these sailors as the symbol of finding ones place in life. When seeking direction and the course of life, it would be nice to have a compass, or a north star to know the direction in which to head. Most people would say that these sailors got these tattos for that reason also. Especailly being a sailor, finding ones course in life my seem difficult at times when so much of life is left to chance, and the way the wind blew. The star is the place of hope that every person can look upon.

Different Styles of Nautical Star Tattoos

June 7th, 2009

Tattoos are designed to be permanent. That is why anyone who is considering getting a tattoo should be very careful in the manner in which they choose their tattoo. For instance, if a person happens to be interested in nautical star tattoos, the fact of the matter is that there are literally thousands of different styles of tattoos that feature a nautical star. With thousands of tattoos from which to choose, it makes no sense to make a hasty decision. According to this article, there are all different kinds of people who choose these type of tattoos. A particular style that appeals to one person, may not appeal to another.

For instance, if you are a soldier in the military, you may choose to get a tattoo of a nautical star to symbolize guidance, as one Marine states that he did on this website. This tattoo could be located anywhere on the body. This particular soldier chose to have a red and black nautical star placed on his wrist so he could easily look at it and remember his home and his purpose for making it through combat safely.

Traditional nautical star tattoos designs are a five point star that has a vertical line dividing each point of the star in half. Each half of each point is filled in with an alternating color such as red and black or black and white. There are many other designs as well, besides the traditional star. Some are quite small, such as the tiny blue star that is described in this article. Many lesbians of the 1940’s and 50’s wore these tattoos, and some still wear them in an attempt to pay homage to their sisterhood of the past.

As modern times continue, tattoo styles become more and more dimensional and complex. The styles include more colors and make the nautical star seem to jump off of the person’s body. The combination of certain colors can have a mesmerizing effect on anyone who views the tattoo, as well. Many punk rockers wear these type of tattoos, as stated at http://www.articlealley.com/article_7535_34.html They choose to sport them on their elbows or as part of a full sleeve tattoo. If you choose to get your own nautical star tattoo, make sure it is a style that best suits you.

Finding The Right Tattoo For You, The Online Design Gallery Review

June 7th, 2009

Finding the right design for your first or fifty-first tattoo is important and should not be left to chance or a last minute decision. You want it to make the right statement and you want it to fit with the rest of the tats you have. I looked at a number of tattoo design web-sites and found two that were outstanding.

Chopper Tattoo - The main page for this site features some very dramatic and colorful pictures from their design gallery. They claim to have the largest tattoo gallery on the internet. While quantity is good, quality is the important thing. From what I’ve seen, the quality is top notch. You even get free music downloads and a free ‘Inked’ magazine when you sign up. If anything, Chopper Tattoo is understated but they’re reported to be most popular. The reason for that can be found on the inside.

Tattoo Me Now - This main page gives you more information than the Chopper Tattoo page. They claim to have over 3,500 designs. This page also explains the structure of the galleries. Once you sign in, you’re taken to an elaborate sales page describing what you’ll get: access to various galleries, a discussion forum and a video vault with tattoo related videos and three, free E-books. There are also some audio testimonials on the sales page so you can see what others think.  For giving them your emil address, they send you a nine-day tattoo email course after you confirm.

Both look excellent. However, Chopper Tattoo has been around longer and is well established with a large client base and that appeals to me. That said, Tattoo Me Now is a strong contender with some great bonuses and well worth checking out to see if they speak to you.

Over the years tattoos have caught rage with Hollywood celebrities to such an extent that more than these stars their tattoos are getting more attention. One of the biggest stars who carry tattoos with élan is Angelina Jolie and has been know to wear a number of tattoos all around her body. She has been known to wear Thai tiger, tribal dragon and a number of Latin verses on her arms and shoulders.

The trend of tattoos started catching up with Hollywood celebrities in the sixties and as far as I can remember Janis Joplin was one of the first celebrities who got tattooed by Lyle Tuttle who is considered to be the forefather of American tattooing. Even one of the sexiest celebrities on Earth Johnny Depp has been known to sport tattoo on his arms which a number of fans have emulated. David Beckham too is known for his love for tattoos and has been caught sporting a range of tattoos both on and off the field with the likes of Hindu scriptures too appearing on his body.

Even rock bands have been found to sport tattoos giving a further push to the popularity of this art. If you love Red Hot Chilli Peppers then you would probably even love the tattoos which they have been sporting over the years. Other stars such as Pharrel, 50 cents and Justin Timberlake too have been sporting tattoos as a tool for expression.

You can probably consider celebrities as unofficial brand ambassador for tattoos. They surely have highlighted the art of tattoo in good light making it one of the most asked for art in the industry.
