What are ideas for tattoos representing strength, endurance, or perseverance?

iv been through a lot in my life but i never let it get me down and im trying to find something to represent that in a tattoo. iv heard of all the ideas for chinese symbols and animals but none of them seem to be what im interested in. any ideas?
I have the Japanese symbol for strength on the back of my neck, even though you say you’re not really into them.. :/ http://www.japanese-name-translation.com/site/kanji/strength.gif
I just like knowing it’s there and that I AM strong.. I don’t let everyone see it though (metaphorically and physically).
